10/22/09 Terminations, Lay-Offs and Discipline in a Down-Turn: A Roadmap for Wine Industry Employers

Whether you are a vintner, grower or service provider to the wine industry, you are in a human capital intensive business. Employment claims can not only harm a team's morale, but also eat into profit margins and refocus a management team from the core objectives of an enterprise. Understanding your rights and obligations as an employer is vital to maintaining a successful business with long-term, satisfied employees.

This multi-media presentation will cover how the economic downturn has greatly increased the risk of wrongful termination and other claims, and will provide practical advice for how to avoid common mistakes that lead to claims by current and former employees.

Examples will be given from the implementation of California's recent legislation, and we will also examine initiatives in other states and predict how the upcoming national effort could further impact the landscape.
